Description: Xenon ware is a specific type of Apulian pottery, so named after a vase in Frankfurt (Beazley, EVP, p. 219,1.) inscribed with the name: XENON. The type is distinguished by added matt red decoration over black glaze. Miniature vases, perhaps toys or votives, are especially prevalent among this type of pottery. Period: 4th cent. BC

 

Condition: Vase A – Very fine, high gloss, small chip to the base. Vase B  - Very fine, small chip to the rim, some encrustation on the surface.
