ANCIENT ROMAN RIBBED GLASS FLASK

Measurements: 6.9 cm - height

 

Description: A pale green Roman glass featuring a globular body and wide neck.  The piece has vertical ribbing features across the whole of the body in even intervals.  The vessel was used as a container for cosmetic products.

 

Reference:  approximate: Auth, S.H., Ancient Glass at the Newark Museum, 1976, no. 537.

Parallel for the shape: Matheson, S. B., Ancient Glass in the Yale University Art Gallery, 1980, no. 348.

 

Period: 6th century AD

 

Condition: Very good. Large areas of natural earthy encrustations.
