Byzantine jewellery was a full continuation and development of Roman traditions. While remembering this heritage, however, Byzantine artists very much forged their own style, iconography, and tradition.  In the Byzantine Empire jewellery played an important role, acting as a way to express ones status and as a diplomatic tool.

Period: 8th - 11th Century AD

Condition: Extremely fine. A very unique and delicate example of Byzantine jewellery.

Provenance: Ex. London private collection.
