Greek Terracotta Black-Figure Lekythos

A fine Greek black-figure terracotta lekythos featuring a tapered body with a narrow neck and a small, deep mouth. A single handle joins the neck to the shoulder of the vessel. The vessel displays beautiful decoration with glossy black paint against the red clay. Black paint is visible on its rim and base. The decoration is primarily in a band around the body’s middle, consisting of motifs of leaves and grapes, giving an impression of grape vines. This vegetal motif is framed by concentric circles of black. On the shoulder of the lekythos there is a series of vertical lines. Some black gloss also remains on the handle and on the interior of the rim.
