A single leaf from a Medieval Bible, featuring a handwritten text in Latin in two columns, and displays a beautiful decoration in red and blue pigment. The leaf itself is exceptionally thin. Its miniature size would have lent itself well to being transported around, perhaps used by a crusader or pilgrim.

The text is a fine example of the popular Medieval and Renaissance gothic book-hand script, known as ‘lettre bâtarde’. The bastard or bastarda script bacame extremely popular in Medieval Europe across the 13th and 14th century. This type of script uses characters written in a cursive form, seeking however an elegance and a composure that make them easily readable.
