ROMAN SILVERED PHALERA
Measurements: 3.9 cm - diameter
Description: A small shield-shaped silvered bronze cast phalera; embossed body bordered by dotted rim, bulged-in ring around the central knob on the top surrounded by the wide belt ornamented with engraved wavy designs and stamped triangular dots, two attachment holes on the border; tinned. The engravings were possibly decorated in niello technique. The back is unworked. This applique was used as decorative element, as a part of the horse harness, a phalera.
