Description: An exquisite Ancient Roman drop-shaped gold pendant, with an integral ribbed loop for suspension, enriched by three granules at the base. The pendant features a fine filigree and granules decoration, comprising a delicate spiral design. This beautiful piece testifies the great refinement and attention to details of Roman goldsmiths.

Romans inherited the use of filigree and granulation, two of the most sophisticated goldsmith metalworking techniques, from the Etruscans. Both techniques are in fact previous to the Etruscans, as the fist jewellery samples featuring both granulation and filigree have been recovered in Mesopotamia, dating back to around 3000 BC.

Period: Circa 3rd century AD

Condition: Extremely fine, the gold is in excellent condition. Suitable for modern wear with care.
