Iridescence
The beautiful iridescence that features on Roman glass is unintentional and it is the effect of weathering on the surface. The conditions that lead to its formation can be very different and depend on the grade of humidity and heat and the type of soil the artefact was buried in, more than the chemical composition of the glass it is made of.
