Translucency

Translucent glassware became popular in ancient Rome as glass-forming techniques were refined to allow craftsmen more artistic freedom. The process of glassblowing was invented by Syrian craftsmen between 27 BC and 14 AD, and was then adopted by Romans. This enabled them to make the glass much thinner, thus allowing light to pass through.
