Votive Offerings

A votive offering is an artefact which was given as an offering to the gods. Such objects may be left in temples or any other religious site. They could also be thrown into bodies of water during a religious ceremony. Votive offerings include a very broad range of objects, from jewellery to weapons to small idols. Also food was commonly used as a votive offering and pottery to carry and store it, such as the case of the ancient Greek Kernos, the pottery ring tray with many small vessels for holding offerings.
