A selection of fine bronze armlets, dating to the European Bronze Age. They are all formed of a penannular shape of continuous, solid bronze. The sides of the armlets are flat, and slope gently to a rounded ridge. The armlets are thickest towards the centre, tapering down to thin, flat terminals. The raised ridges and flattened sides of the armlet embellishes these otherwise undecorated ornaments.

Date: Circa 2200-800 BC
Condition: Very fine condition. A beautiful dark patina to the surface of all the bangles. Signs of wear as consistent with its age, such as minor scratches and surface pitting. Some warping to the shape.

The Bronze Age, as its name suggests, is a historical period characterised by an extensive use of bronze. It is also known for its use of writing, with cultures such as the Near East and Egypt being the first to develop practical writing systems, and other features of early urban civilisation. The beginning of the Bronze Age differed from region to region and culture to culture, as it was heavily dependent on the discovery of tin mining, smelting, and its combination with hot copper. Many bronze pieces have been found alongside gold items in the wealthiest burials of warriors and princes from the period. Metal jewellery is one of the most significant features of Bronze Age life, discovered as valued grave goods, buried with men and women alike. Bronze armlets, such as this beautiful example, may also have been worn as bracelets or bangles.
